Considered a sterile clone. Perhaps the most arrestingy original and rare "Maidenhair Fern" we offer--although we are not sure most maidens would wish their hair to too closely resemble this topsy turvy outline. Perhaps a punk maiden.

23784 PEPEROMIA PROSTRATA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 7.00 "Prostrate Peperomia" New listing for 2010. Sometimes called minima or rotundifolia. We have another dwarf creeper called P. rotundifolia, so we prefer to call this P. prostata. This is a great ground cover or even small hanging basket plant. 11438 ALSOPHILA COOPERII [CYATHEA AUSTRALIS] CYT CGH PRICE: $10.00 "Australian Tree Fern" Young plants present a spreading canopy of metallic deep green arching fronds supported by a cinnamon trunk; eventually a massive stunning specimen. Although we recommend greenhouse culture in our climate, some customers have successfully grown this as a house or large Wardian Case specimen, always keeping constant levels of humidity. We have grown this to a most impressive size on a sunny porch, glass enclosed during the winter.

30125 ANTHURIUM MICKEY MOUSE [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Dwarf hybrid with delightful shinny scarlet fls flared out into ear-like lobes tinted greenish; clumping habit. Growth is like a compact andreanum, but with an Obake blossom shape which can be successfully produced in normal houseplant conditions unlike most of the Obake types. Recommended for those who long for success without standing over a plant with a mister. We also offer Anthurium Hawaiian Butterfly, which is so similiar that we sometimes send the latter. You will get one or the other, whichever is available at the time.

Avoid excessive heat during the winter.

40198 DORITIS PUCHERRIMA ORC HP PRICE: $ 22.00 "Amethyst Orchid" (formerly Phalaenopsis pucherrima) From purplish wide leathery strap leaves arch slender stems bearing completely charming amethyst blossoms much more 3-D than "Moth Orchid" hybrids. .This plant will cluster well and grows nicely as a standard house plant. Flowers are smaller and more complex than those of the standard Phalaenopsis. Best grown in a barky orchid mix. Always popular with our succulent collectors as this elegant Orchid tolerates lower humidity levels and higher light levels than its "Moth Orchid" cousins.

40203 DORSTENIA CONTRAJERVA AMPLIFOLIA MOR HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 "Wart Flower" Wider, shallower hypanthodium lobing than the species form (see previous entry) with the typical leaf also less lobed; the thick tuberculed succulent stem is unsegmented. Easy culture. Probably the species known as "Drake's Foot" used as a cure for snakebite in Central & South America, thus also known as "Tortus Herb." Dramatic in a large terrarium, yet quite easily grown on any windowsill--if it (for mysterious reasons) remains unwatered for some extended period of time and drops its leaves, just begin watering again and a new set will soon appear as the pseudo-caudex trunk retains life for a good stretch of time (and remember to keep the dried leaves for your snakebite medical kit). Can you afford not to have this houseplant?

41260 FICUS FRED BOUTIN MOR HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.00 Unique woody, twiggy low growing "character" trunks give this quirky hybrid of F. carica x pumila high marks with cascade bonsai trainers who also value its richly haired, quilted foliage. this selfbranching jewel needs high humidity like its carica parent to maintain good spidermite free foliage; loves a pole or wall to clamber like its pumila parent. Of most interest to collectors as the Moraceae are notoriously difficult to hybridize as the blossoms face the center of the enclosed protofruit available only to the designated wasp species.. Not only prized by moss topiary designers but also now discovered by Wardian Case designers looking for a taller fig which will remain small featured.

40300 FICUS SAGITATA VARIEGATA MOR HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 "Trailing Fig" dark quilted long leaves over wiry often creeping stems which arch to give an open effect. This is the beautiful variegated or marginated form of this old favorite. Not as clingy as the Ficus pumila types, but makes quite a nice ground cover in pots around larger plants. Also if often used as a hanging basket subject and perfect in mossed topiary use as the stems root into the moss.
