53035 KAEMPFERIA GILBERTII 3-D ZIN HP TGH PRICE: PRICE: $7.50 Now! PRICE: $5.50 Showy selection of the "Burmese Kaleidoscope Ginger" with bowtie rosettes of closely packed pale green leaves slashed with white and lime along with avacado green, nearly overwhelming the white & purple orchidlike blossoms. Late winter dormancy--be patient and do not allow the tubers to dry out completely while dormant. We suggest leaving the pot undisturbed during its rest.

20172 KOHLERIA FLIRT [HYB] GES TERR TGH PRICE: $6.25 Worley's compact hybrid has best habit of Kohlerias--mounds of turquoise-blue downy leaves, with purple veins, strikingly foil the soft red tubular blossoms with cerise dots. Handsome terrarium plant, appearing then disappearing, the reappearing; thrives under light gardening conditions where it does not usually even go dormant as long as most Kohleria species and hybrids do.

70723 LAGERSTROEMIA PINK VELOUR [HYB] LYT HT PRICE: $ 12.00 Dark dusky purple foliage (mildew resistent) perfect for the heads of deep pink flowers; best as a container plant in the greenhouse as becomes a vase shaped 10' shrub if planted directly. We are offering a winter hardy "Crepe Myrtle" in this tropical section because this spectacular new offering is surpisingly showy when forced in the winter greenhouse. Outdoors (when becomes too large for your greenhouse) it will add bright orange fall foliar color to its bag of tricks.

55544 LAGUNARIA PATERSONII MAL TGH CGH DO NOT ORDER UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. WE HAVE NO PLANTS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME Tree Hibiscus from Norfolk Island with wooly-silvery under leaves emerging from scale-scruft; odd pink flowers; red seeds. Remember this is considered a "tree" rather than a "shrub." Needs full sun to flower. SOLD OUT CURRENTLY.

66977 LANTANA CAMARA DALLAS RED VER CGH PRICE: $ 5.00 Striking heads of maroon toned scarlet flowers with petite lime yellow eyes--while not the most vigorous cultivar, valued for it adds a lot of visual heat to a windowbox.

58314 LANTANA CAMARA FRECKLES [TROPICAL FRUIT] VER CGH PRICE: $ 5.50 The paired leaves are subtlely speckled pale champange and lime--lovely with the yellow and cream toned flower heads. Very lateral growth habit. While not striking as a specimen, works well in combination plantings.

54078 LANTANA CAMARA GREG GRANT VER TGH CGH PRICE: $ 7.50 Distinctive discovery by Grant of a sport of the heirloom 'Flava' with its heads of sulphur yellow flowers fading to saffron pink, quite effective against this sport's leaves slashed with bright gold and splashed with cream. Showy--but be sure to remove all reversions. Greg claims to have scaled the wall of a nunnery to initially retrive and then preserve and perpetuate this distinctive sport of the ubiquitous tropical weed. We believe all plantsmen's stories.

40428 LANTANA CAMARA SAMANTHA [VARIEGATA] VER CGH HP PRICE: $ 4.00 "Golden Lantana" Bright yellow-zoned leaves are the perfect foil for the golden flower heads; needs bright light. Very old clone which has yet to be bested.

54362 LANTANA CAMARA WHITE DWARF VER CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 LIMITED AVAILABILITY A very compact nearly prostratein habit, small-leaved shrublet freely producing cute heads of rich white minute blossoms closely packed in heavy clusters--thus, the "Silver Mound" Lantana which is noted for lateral growth habit.

40427 LAURUS NOBILIS LAU HP CGH HH PRICE: $ 6.00 It is quite aromatic beautiful. "Sweet Bay" or "Greek Laurel" Stiff decorative fragrant leaves on erect woody maroon stems make this the ideal "Formally Shaped" shrub candidate. Aromatic leaves are used to flavor food & to yield an essential oil of perfumery and medicine. The plant police will get you if you even attempt to grow a collection of topiary standards and dare to leave laurel out of the group! Will grow in indirect light as well as full sun.Being subtropical, "Sweet Bay" tolerates considerable winter chill until you can bring it out onto your summer patio; nonetheless, with proper pruning (an easy job for good cooks!) this attractive shrub will be happy on your sunny windowsill for years.

41932 LAURUS NOBILIS CRISPA [UNDULATA] LAU CGH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 "Piecrust Bay Tree" Curious selection with each aromatic deep green slim leathery leaf crimped along the margin. This rare cultivar becomes an absolutely stunning topiary, whether clipped into a wide based cone, a pyramid, or cube; or, limbed up as a sturdy trunk topped with a spherical pompon.

81943 LAVATERA OBLIA AUREA MAL CGH HH PRICE: $ 10.00 The imposing "Golden Tree Mallow" with downy chartreuse to gold (in winter) foliage on the eventually 3' plus trunks with lovely pink blossoms. A tree in its native Western Med. areas; the striking foliage of this sport makes it a candidate for many horticultural niches. An easy container subject--but site this carefully as most people cannnot resist the urge to pet it.

65823 LEDEBOURIA OVATIFOLIA LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Very wide pale green jade-toned fleshy leaves fan out into an open circle over the fat, swollen surface bulb; winter dormant (leafless) if kept quite cool during winter; very slow to offset. Of more botanic than horticultural interest.

65824 LEDEBOURIA PAUCIFLORA LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.50 Wonderful miniature with delicately mottled fleshy leaves on clustering glossy surface bulbs. Lovely undemanding houseplant; always a favorite carefree windowsill citizen; excellent addition to any dish garden and a great visual companion to the more commonly available L. socialis.

65827 LEDEBOURIA SOCIALIS LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.75 Formerly Scilla violacea. "Silver Squill" Rich purple swollen bulblets in thick clusters support small violet- backed leaves whose surfaces are dotted silver. Easy houseplant with small wands of tiny white flowers produced seasonally. If allowed to become a many-headed specimen, the winter blooms can be quite impressive en mass.

65829 LEDEBOURIA SOCIALIS GILA MONSTER LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.75 A lovely olive ovals scattered on ash blue to glaucus green leaves held in bunches over the swollen bulbs which ofset to form a perfect hemisphere. Originally shared with us by Ruth Crane, this beauty is probably a separate species not accurately identified.

65832 LEDEBOURIA [SCILLA] LUTEO-SOCIALIS [HORT] LIL HP TGH PRICE: $5.50 Nomenclature most confused--appearance of a giant Ledebouria pauciflora with floppy freckled foliage; reaches impressive proportions.

56904 LEDEBOURIA VIOLACEA LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 9.75 This seem shorter than and of higher color than Ledebouria socialis. The spots are somehat darker and the plants seem more compact. We have seen this listed as Scilla violacea also.

11430 LEPISORUS BICOLOR POLYPO CGH PRICE: $ 7.25 Resembles a sophisticated Pyrrosia with very slim surface rhizomes; strap fronds with indented polka-dot spore patches distinguish this "Sechuan Ribbon Fern" which Eco-Gardens has determined to be Zone 8 hardy. Quite beautiful and distinct in pot or basket--even though its initial slow deliberate growth rate may test your patience--slow to start, strong to finish. Grown in Camellia house conditions this creeping fern becomes fantastic, whether as a ground cover, as a hanging moss basket subject, a moss topiary addition, or as a gradually shingling climber on a moist protected wall or moss pole.

88908 LEUCOSCEPTRUM JAPONICUM VARIEGATUM LAB CGH HH HP PRICE: $ 5.50 A Glasshouse Works selection of this perennial we often add to container gardens for its beautiful cascading woody stems that are lined with pairs of golden lime parchment variegated textured leaves and tipped with demure mauve-beige mint blossoms. Just sit the pot under your greenhouse bench during its winter rest.

40437 LIGULARIA TUSSILAGINEA CRISPATA COMP HH CGH PRICE: $ 15.00 "Parsley Farfugium" Thick ruffled leaves with crisped margins over woody creeping rootstock; odd surreal daisy fls appear when its cool, bright, moist conditions are met. To achieve the remarkable impact this fantastic plant can give, NEVER let it dry out to the point the emerging leaves wilt. This selection is more easily persuaded to enter a winter rest (for those of you who run out of winter space to stash the giant plants your collection) than the spotted cultivars. Quite winter hardy in the very deep South. Once again becoming the genus Farfugium.

56550 LIGULARIA TUSSILAGINEA KAGAMI JISHI COMP HH CGH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 Fabulous "Crested Leopard Plant" with wildly ruffled leather leaves richly strewn with big gold dapplings--more dramatic dappling than the traditional "Leopard"; tall stems hold sprays of floppy yellow dasies late fall. Cold hardiness depends on location, frost line, & mulching technique. We keep ours in a cool winter greenhouse to enjoy the fabulous foliar display year round. Impressively vigorous for such a big dramatically dappled and fluted leaved plant--never let any of these Farfugium dry out for if the giant succulent leaves collapse for any length of time, they will show permanent damage. More correct currently under the old name Farfugium t.

72840 LIGUSTRUM LEMON & LIME OLE HH CGH PRICE: $ 8.00 Lovely shrublet of uncertain origin quickly self branching to form a wide (yet petite in appearance) outline of tiny glossy leaves with crimped wavy edges nicely variegated. Should be a valuable new candidate for bonsai. Keeps color well and trims well.

43148 LIPPIA [PHYLA] ALBA VER CGH PRICE: $ 8.00 Small shrubby tree with dark minutely hairy leaves which, when bruised, give off a stong licorice/anise fragrance. Good container plant for sunny location, easily shaped and sheared to compact shapes and even tolerating temps in the upper 40s mid winter when it produces many tiny Lantana-like heads of blossoms. This important Asian herb needs adequate humidity to avoid developing a case of red spider infeststion--so (as with "Lemon Verbena") best considered a sunny greenhouse plant rather than a house subject. (Nonetheless, customers tell us it if far easier than we suggest.)

41727 LIPPIA DULCIS VER CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 The famous "Sweet Herb" known by the Aztec as "Tzopelic Xlhuitl" who used the leaves as a sweetener--just chew the leaf before you take a bite of any fruit or raw vegetable for the sweet sensation! Forms a laterally arching mound studded with many tiny "Lantana" heads with fringes of white Lantana blossoms. We are told by fanciers of tropical herbs that the roots have a distinctive liquorice flavor; we have yet to chew any roots to test this information, prefering instead to use this as a subtle but attractive cascading addition to windowboxes and summer urns--as nights become more chill the foliage turns a bronzy purple.

43116 LYCOPERSICON CHERRY ICING [HYB] SOL CGH PRICE: $ 8.50The fabulous variegated foliage of this "Mini Pearl" tomato puts this on everyone's want list: the tiny bright red pearl sized tasty fruit clusters accent the x pimpinellifolium dissected leaves, each margined soft creamy ivory. Visitors to the nursery have lusted after this Doug Lohman creation for some time: finally, it is ready for your garden.

80957 LYSIMACHIA CONGESTIFLORA ECO DARK SATIN PRI CGH HH PRICE: $ 4.75 Low spreading dark velvety foliage beautifully foils the clear bright yellow blossoms which appear in tight bouquets; thus "Nosegay Flower" recently renamed " Persian Chocolate"; hanging basket, aquatic, moss standards, and so on.

88585 LYSIMACHIA CONGESTIFLORA GOLDEN HARVEST PRI CGH HH PRICE: $ 4.75 An excellent subtropical "Golden Nosegay" selection with the clusters of bright yellow flowers highlighting the muted golden foliage of this procumbent half hardy perennial; NOT the patented yellow margined form.
